Overview

This has many uses, including: before and after a move to account for all of your belongings; before selling your home ( an inventory of what you are selling); during a home sale (when the buyer wants to buy certain furniture and fixtures); to keep track of items in a rental property along with evidence of condition; to arrange insurance or to able to prove your loss and get paid the most money by your insurance company if you have to make a claim. A home inventory with pictures, serial numbers and distinguishing marks can also aid in the event of theft in identifying recovered items.

Item List

Select the All Items (List) view This will display a list of all items. Select an example item and press the Edit symbol on the right-hand side of the line item. This will open an edit view to change the content as follows:

Item Information

Name and Description of the Item.

Location is where the item is located.

Image is used to store one or more images of the item. This is useful to demonstrate appearance and evidence of condition.

Condition is useful when an inventory list is associated with house rental items. Photographs may also be stored in the Documentation field as evidence of condition.

Model Specific Information

This is a useful reference in case you need to find spare parts or need the item serviced:

Manufacturer, Model and Serial Number of Item.

Purchase Information

May be used for warranty purposes or as a reference for insurance purposes. The fields associated with this use are:

Where Item was purchased

Date of Purchase

Purchase Receipt

The Documentation field can be used to store any other related documentation, for example warranty information, insurance details or usage and cleaning guides.

Security Information

Distinguishing features is a useful field to help identify items if they are stolen. The Security Markings field allows information on any 'secret' security markings or tracking tags to be identified.

Insurance and Value Information

It is common to use a list to calculate the value for insurance purposes. Insurance values may be for general content insurance or for specific replacement values on named valuable items. This template contains multiple fields to aid in valuations:

Cost at time of purchase

Estimated replacement cost

Contents insurance value estimate is the value used to estimate the total cost of your items for household insurance purposes.

Insured named item identifies if this is an item that is named specifically on an insurance policy. The Named Item Insurance Value can be used to identify specific valuations for named items.

Insurance estimates may be supported by professional valuation appraisals. In this case, a copy of the appraisal can be stored in the Appraisals attachment field.
